Ehren-Haus offers plastic fabrication services including post fabrication operations such as plastic tapping, trimming, and drilling. Plastic tapping is especially useful when various components are joined together to form a single product.
Plastic tapping is a machining process done to create threads on a screw. It is also used to cut threads inside a screw hole so that a bolt can be fitted onto it. Tapping is widely done using CNC machining as well as precision-mounted equipment with specific tooling capabilities. This machining technique can be performed along with other techniques such as plastic drilling and trimming to add threads to a hole in a fabricated or molded part or component. This post fabrication process can be done on plastics as well as metals.
For post fabrication plastic tapping, drilling and trimming, our team of experts helps you select the right material such as polycarbonate, acrylic, or any other suitable plastic depending upon the number and type of threads you require for your product. We accept prototyping, low volume as well as high volume orders. The order size is not an issue for us. We offer custom plastic machining services to create appropriate threads on your plastic component. Also, we have team of experts to offer guidance and technical assistance.
What is Our Process?
We accept designs in IGS, CAD, and DXF formats. The designs are analyzed and discussed with the client for clarity. Any design changes are suggested in the initial stages. The prototype building begins after seeking their approval. |

As part of our CNC machining secondary operations, we offer tapping, drilling and trimming which are required in very specific areas. Our 35 years of experience in this segment have strengthened our material analysis and enabled us to offer full plastic machining solutions. We have significantly invested in technology and research, and here are our tapping capabilities:
Tapping of plastics is different from tapping of metals, and hence use instruments specifically meant for plastics. CNC machine tapping is much more efficient and faster than hand tapping, and we use the former. We have various types of tap feeds for our CNC machine, and the speed of tapping is decided based on the type of tap.
Self-tapping allows large volumes of production. Self-tapping is achieved through thread cutting and thread forming screws. The former creates a thread path, while the latter generates a permanent thread by deforming the plastic. For inserts or screws to be threaded into a plastic part, we use self-tapping.
We can work on the smallest sizes of screws to form threads, and possess that kind of skill and machine capability. We can match the thickness, length, and number of screw threads with your exact requirements.
We can accurately decide the size and diameter based on the material. Some plastics expand during processing but contract to their original size when tapped. To get the exact depth and size, we use thread milling. Also, thread milling enables us to create internal as well as external threads. This helps us create custom threads with tight tolerances.
We have diverse in-house tooling capabilities with the help of which we can create accurate finishes, exact number of threads, and so on. Our threads do not tear even initially because we are aware of the sensitivity of certain plastics and hence we add chamfers into the hole before performing the threading operation. Also, we use coolants during the tapping and threading process.
Here are some reasons for choosing us for your plastic tapping needs:
1
With 35 +years of experience in the plastics engineering and fabrication industry, we have an expertise in the tapping process using CNC machining.
2
We have a well-equipped facility in South Carolina, which meets the required quality as well as American vendor standards. For tapping, we offer in-house tooling.
3
Our plastic tapping services are compliant with industry standards AS9100 and ISO9001. Our skilled workforce and advanced machines allow us to achieve the tightest tolerances on smallest of screws.
